Karthigai Deepam (கார்த்திகை தீபம்)
December 3, 2026The festival of lights in the Tamil month of Karthigai. Especially celebrated in Thiruvannamalai where a giant bonfire (Maha Deepam) is lit on top of Arunachala hill.

The Tamil Calendar System (தமிழ் பஞ்சாங்கம்)
The Tamil calendar (Tamil Panchangam) is a solar calendar with 12 months. Each month is named after a star:
- Chithirai (சித்திரை) — April–May
- Vaigasi (வைகாசி) — May–June
- Aani (ஆனி) — June–July
- Aadi (ஆடி) — July–August
- Aavani (ஆவணி) — August–September
- Purattasi (புரட்டாசி) — September–October
- Aippasi (ஐப்பசி) — October–November
- Karthigai (கார்த்திகை) — November–December
- Margazhi (மார்கழி) — December–January
- Thai (தை) — January–February
- Maasi (மாசி) — February–March
- Panguni (பங்குனி) — March–April
The Tamil New Year begins on the first day of Chithirai (around April 14 in the Gregorian calendar).
